1. I plug my ShowMate into my computer for the first time and the Found New Hardware wizard is launched. Where do I get the driver for the ShowMate?
The driver is included in the ShowMate updater application in the Driver folder. The ShowMate updater application and driver can be downloaded from: http://www.impatica.com/showmate/updater/. The driver is also included on the CD-ROM that was shipped with the ShowMate device.

2. I just received a ShowMate. What is the next step?
A good place to start would be to read the documentation on the ShowMate CD (QuickInstall/QuickStart Guide, User’s Manual, Online tutorial, Practice Presentation) or visit our informative ShowMate web page. This web page outlines all the steps necessary to get you up and running, as well as provides all software downloads you may need. 3. Where do I get your software?
Our ShowMate web page has links to all relevant ShowMate downloads. You can install the Impatica for PowerPoint BlackBerry Edition software from the Downloads link on the Welcome page. You can also launch the CD you received with your ShowMate and navigate to the Impatica for PowerPoint BE 3.6.1 folder and run the setupppt.exe installer. You will receive your registration information when you register the ShowMate at http://www.impatica.com/showmate/register.

You can install the Impatica Presentation Viewer by using your BlackBerry Browser and going to http://www.impatica.com/bb. If you use your desktop browser and go to http://www.impatica.com/bb you can download the ImpaticaPresentationViewer.zip package that contains the necessary installation files to install over-the-air or via the Desktop Manager Application Loader.

4. When I download the ImpaticaPresentationViewer.zip to my desktop there is an ImpaticaViewerOnly.alx and an ImpaticaViewerAndHandler.alx. Which one do I install?
The ImpaticaViewerOnly.alx should be installed on your handheld for viewing impaticized presentations that were converted with the Impatica for PowerPoint BlackBerry Edition software.

If you are using the Impatica for BES product for converting presentations you should use the ImpaticaViewerAndHandler.alx provided by your BES Administrator. Ensure that you receive the installation files for the ImpaticaViewerAndHandler from your BES administrator after he/she has configured the Impatica for BES application. Installing the local version of the ImpaticaViewerAndHandler will not work properly with the Impatica for BES product (as it does not contain the required information for your local BES environment), and does not present any benefit to non Impatica for BES users.

5. Where do I go to register my ShowMate in order to receive my registration information for Impatica for PowerPoint BlackBerry Edition?
Go to http://www.impatica.com/showmate/register.

6. I selected Project Presentation and a transfer bar comes up on my BlackBerry. After a few seconds I see the first slide of my presentation but I can’t go to the next slide. What's going on?
This happens because you cannot interact with the presentation until the entire presentation has completed its transfer to the ShowMate.

7. I have installed the Impatica Presentation Viewer on my BlackBerry and when I launch it the following message appears: Error starting ImpViewer Module net_rim_bb_attachment not found.
The error Module net_rim_bb_attachment not found indicates that the attachment handling feature is not installed on the BlackBerry. If your BlackBerry OS version is 3.8 or higher, you will need to run the application loader and install the BlackBerry Attachment Service feature that comes with the BlackBerry OS installation files. See screenshot below:

8. When I run the ShowMate updater, I get an "Error Communicating with ShowMate" message. What is wrong?
The problem could be one of three things:

  1. The ShowMate is not plugged into the computer using a USB cable. Plug the ShowMate into the computer using any standard USB cable.
  2. The ShowMate is not in a "ready" state. Wait until the LED (light) on the ShowMate flashes before trying to run the updater. (Note: hitting ‘retry’ should also work).
  3. The driver has not been loaded. (see next FAQ below).

9. How do I load the driver for the ShowMate?
Get to the driver wizard by one of the following two methods:

  1. The first time you plug the ShowMate into a computer using a standard USB port, Windows should report that it has found new hardware and will launch the hardware wizard.
  2. If Windows did not detect the new hardware, then right click "My Computer" and choose "Properties". Under the "Hardware" tab, click the "Device Manager" button. There should be a "Gadget Serial" device in the unknown section. Highlight it and open its properties. Click on the "Driver" tab and then choose "Update Driver".
Navigate to the "Driver" folder that was extracted from the ShowMate-Updater.zip file. Once selected, Windows should find the driver for the ShowMate. You may be prompted with a warning that states the driver has not passed Windows certification. Click "OK" to continue. Once the driver is installed, unplug and replug in the ShowMate. Once the light has flashed, or the splash screen is visible (if connected to a projector) you should see a "Gadget Serial" device in the "Ports (COM & LPT)" section of the device manager. Try to launch the updater again. (Note: hitting retry in the updater window - if it was already running - should work also).

10. When installing the Impatica Presentation Viewer on my BlackBerry, I get the error "Digital signatures are invalid". What does that mean?
You will see this error if your BlackBerry IT policy has "Disallow Third Party Applications" enabled. Please check with your BlackBerry Enterprise Server administrator for details on this IT policy.

11. I would like to host the Impatica Presentation Viewer installer files directly on my corporate web server instead of sending my users to the Impatica web site. Can you tell me how to achieve this?
To post the Impatica Presentation Viewer on a corporate web site it is possible to use the files provided in the Impatica Presentation Viewer package. Please follow these steps:

  • For Impatica ShowMate users who are not using Impatica for BES:
    • Download the ImpaticaPresentationViewer.zip package at http://www.impatica.com/bb from a web browser on a desktop computer;
    • Unzip the package to a folder on a web server;
    • Instruct users to launch their BlackBerry Browser and go to the URL of this web server folder;
    • The user will be provided two links located in the included index.html page. They can choose the viewer that corresponds to their BlackBerry Operating System. The graphics below depict how to check your operating system on a BlackBerry:
            


  • For Impatica ShowMate users who are using Impatica for BES:
    • Backup the ImpHandler folder in the Impatica for BES install location: (by default) C:\Program Files\ImpaticaForBES\ImpHandler;
    • Backup and then delete the contents of the Impatica for BES ImpHandler folder: (by default) C:\Program Files\ImpaticaForBES\ImpHandler;
    • Download the ImpaticaPresentationViewerBES.zip package at http://www.impatica.com/bb/ImpaticaPresentationViewerBES.zip from a web browser on your desktop computer;
    • Unzip the downloaded package to the Impatica for BES install folder/ImpHandler: (by default) C:\Program Files\ImpaticaForBES\ImpHandler;
    • Launch the Impatica for BES Administration Utility;
    • Copy the contents of the ImpHandler folder to a folder on a web server;
    • Instruct users to launch their BlackBerry Browser and go to the URL of this web server folder;
    • The user will be provided two links located in the included index.html page. They can choose the viewer that corresponds to their BlackBerry Operating System. The graphics below depict how to check your operating system on a BlackBerry:
