This is not an option for me as the only options available are 'No' and 'Always Ask'. How should I proceed?

11. How do I assemble the power adapter that was included with my ShowMate?

1. I plug my ShowMate into my computer for the first time and the Found New Hardware wizard is launched. Where do I get the driver for the ShowMate?
The driver is included in the ShowMate updater application in the Driver folder. The ShowMate updater application and driver can be downloaded from: http://www.impatica.com/showmate/updater/. The driver is also included on the CD-ROM that was shipped with the ShowMate device.

2. I just received a ShowMate. What is the next step?
A good place to start would be to read the documentation on the ShowMate CD (QuickInstall/QuickStart Guide, User’s Manual, Online tutorial, Practice Presentation) or visit our informative ShowMate web page. This web page outlines all the steps necessary to get you up and running, as well as provides all software downloads you may need. The ShowMate page also contains a Getting Started section which outlines recommended first steps to take: http://www.impatica.com/showmate/getstarted.

3. Where do I get your software?
Our ShowMate web page has links to all relevant ShowMate downloads. You can install the Impatica for PowerPoint Mobile Edition software from the Downloads link on the Welcome page. You can also launch the CD you received with your ShowMate and navigate to the Impatica for PowerPoint 3.6.4 folder and run the setupppt.exe installer. You will receive your registration information when you register the ShowMate at http://www.impatica.com/showmate/register.

To install the Impatica Viewer on a Sony Ericsson handheld you may install Over the Air (OTA) by posting the ImpaticaViewer.jad and ImpaticaViewer.jar on a webserver and using the Internet Browser on the handheld to download the ImpaticaViewer.jad file. You can also copy the files to the handheld and select the "Install" option on the ImpaticaViewer.jad.

4. Where do I go to register my ShowMate in order to receive my registration information for Impatica for PowerPoint Mobile Edition?
Go to http://www.impatica.com/showmate/register.

5. When I run the ShowMate updater, I get an "Error Communicating with ShowMate" message. What is wrong?
The problem could be one of four things:

  1. The ShowMate is not plugged into the computer using a USB cable. Plug the ShowMate into the computer using any standard USB cable.
  2. The ShowMate is not in a "ready" state. Wait until the LED (light) on the ShowMate flashes before trying to run the updater. (Note: hitting ‘retry’ should also work).
  3. The driver has not been loaded. (see next FAQ below).
  4. You did not disconnect and reconnect the USB cable to the ShowMate after installing the driver.

6. How do I load the driver for the ShowMate?
Get to the driver wizard by one of the following two methods:

  1. The first time you plug the ShowMate into a computer using a standard USB port, Windows should report that it has found new hardware and will launch the hardware wizard.
  2. If Windows did not detect the new hardware, then right click "My Computer" and choose "Properties". Under the "Hardware" tab, click the "Device Manager" button. There should be a "Gadget Serial" device in the unknown section. Highlight it and open its properties. Click on the "Driver" tab and then choose "Update Driver".
Navigate to the "Driver" folder that was extracted from the ShowMate-Updater.zip file. Once selected, Windows should find the driver for the ShowMate. You may be prompted with a warning that states the driver has not passed Windows certification. Click "OK" to continue. Once the driver is installed, unplug and replug in the ShowMate. Once the light has flashed, or the splash screen is visible (if connected to a projector) you should see a "Gadget Serial" device in the "Ports (COM & LPT)" section of the device manager. Try to launch the updater again. (Note: hitting retry in the updater window - if it was already running - should work also).

7. I copied the ImpaticaViewer.jad and ImpaticaViewer.jar files to my device. Both offer an Install option. Which file do I install?
You should install the ImpaticaViewer.jad file as it will install the application in the Trusted domain. This will allow you to suppress security warnings that would appear otherwise.

8. I installed the ImpaticaViewer but it was installed in the Non-trusted security domain. What can I do now?

  1. Ensure that you installed the ImpaticaViewer.jad and NOT the ImpaticaViewer.jar.
  2. Verify that the phone has the Thawte Premium Server CA certificate installed as a root certificate:
    • On some devices go to the Settings > General > Security > Certificates > Java Certificates
    • On others go to Settings > Connectivity > Internet Settings > Security > Java Certificate
  3. Once there is a Java Verified version of the Impatica Viewer, verify that the phone has the GeoTrust UTI certificate

9. What application permissions (read/write/local connectivity/sms read/write) are required?
Read/write permission is required to access converted files on the phone memory or memory stick. Recommended setting is Never Ask for each read and write permissions.

If you do not have a "Never Ask" option please see FAQ #10 below.

Local connectivity is required to create Bluetooth connections to the ShowMate. Recommended setting is Never Ask.

SMS read/write is required to implement the Push Registry requirements defined for Java Verified process. Recommended setting is Never Ask.

10. Your installation instructions indicate the following:
"Once the application is installed on your handheld, navigate to it, click the More button to open the Applications menu then choose Permissions. Ensure the permissions for Read User Data and Write User Data are set to Never ask".
This is not an option for me as the only options available are 'No' and 'Always Ask'. How should I proceed?

Some service providers do not allow the ability to set application permissions to Never Ask. In response to this situation we have created a Hotsite (beta) build of the Impatica Viewer for Sony Ericsson devices (v1.0.3a) that will allow you to set these permissions at runtime. Please email Impatica Support to obtain access to this build: support@impatica.com

11. How do I assemble the power adapter that was included with my ShowMate?
The power adapter is assembled by snapping the removable prong modules into the power adapter. See the illustration below for more details.
