1. How do I upload my impaticized presentations to a Web server?
Uploading your impaticized presentations to a Web server is quite straightforward. After translating your presentations, you should preview them to ensure they have converted to your satisfaction. Once your expectations have been achieved click on the "Connect" button on the "Web Server Upload" tab, specify the correct server name, root directory, user name and password.

Here is the connection information that you require:

  • FTP Server Name: This can be an IP address or ftp name (for example:ftp.yourwebaddress.com). This would be the FTP access address that you use when connecting via FTP software (for example: WS-FTP). You need to know where this address, along with your User Name and Password, places you within the directory structure of your server.

  • FTP Port: Can usually be left blank.

  • FTP User Name: Your unique user name.

  • FTP Password: Your unique password.

  • Web Documents Folder: This setting is used to indicate the path to your public folder (and sub folders) on your server. Basically, within this setting, you are telling the software where to navigate on your server in order to properly place your files. In turn, this path is used within the APPLET tag.

    Example: If when you connect to your server using your FTP SERVER NAME, USER NAME, and PASSWORD, you are placed at the root of your server directory structure, then you need to provide the path to your public folder (for example: a folder on your server that is accessible via the Web or Intranet).

    An example of your structure may be: public_html/personalfolder

    This is provided that when you connect to your server using your FTP SERVER NAME, USER NAME, and PASSWORD, that you are at the root of the server and that you must navigate to the public folder called "public_html" and then to your personal folder called "personalfolder" in order to place the Impatica files. If when you connect to your server you are automatically placed in the public folder ("public_html", in our example), then your Web Documents Folder setting would simply be: "personalfolder".

  • Web Site Location: This setting is the web address where the uploaded files will be located. When you connect to the server via a web browser (using your web address) you should be within your top-level public folder. From there, you would need to provide the navigation to your personal sub folder.

    Continuing the example from above, the Web Site Location setting would be: www.YourWebSite.com/personalfolder

  • Connection Type: Usually an "Active" connection type will suffice. In some cases, however, a "Passive" connection may be required for file transfers. If the connection and file transfer is not successful using an "Active" connection type, change to "Passive".

This information is used by the software to create the HTML code and the e-mail HTML code. All of the other connection settings can usually be left at their default values.

Once you have successfully connected to the Web server, simply click on the "Put File" button to upload the impaticized content.

2. Can I use Impatica for PowerPoint content with WebCT? How do I upload my content to WebCT?
Because of WebCT's unique file upload feature, you cannot use Impatica's FTP feature with WebCT. Impatica files must therefore be uploaded in the same manner as normal web files. The difference in adding Impatica content is that each Impatica presentation requires, at minimum, 3 files.

Instructions for uploading Impatica files:

  • When impaticizing your PowerPoint file, ensure that you select to generate a "Zip package" from the "Extra Output Files" tab within Impatica for PowerPoint. To achieve this:
    • Add a file to the "Source PowerPoint Files" list.
    • Select the "Extra Output Files" tab.
    • Within the "Generated Support Files" area, check the "Zip package" checkbox.
    • Select the remaining translation settings that you require and click on the "Impaticize" button.

  • Once the conversion process is complete, the following files will be located in the chosen save location:
    • filename.html (this is the HTML file viewers will see, and is created by Impatica for PowerPoint to play the converted PowerPoint presentation).
    • filename-imp.jar (this is the converted PowerPoint presentation).
    • ImPlayer4xx.jar or ImPlayerWithVideo4xx.jar (these are the Impatica Players *).
    • videofilename.imv (this is the converted video file contained in the presentation. There will be one .imv file for each video file contained in the presentation. Imv files will only be present if there were videos contained on the slides in the PowerPoint file).
    • filename.zip (this is the zip archive that contains all of the required files for playback of your impaticized presentation).
    *Only one copy of each Impatica player is needed. This means that if you have multiple Impatica files in the same directory, you only need one copy of each ImPlayer4xx.jar file in that directory.

  • In Web CT:
    • Connect to your WebCT account;
    • Select "Manage Files" from the "Control Panel" on the left side of the page;

    • Select "Add Page or Tool" from the "Control Panel" on the left side of the page;
    • In the "Pages/URL's" section, select the "Single Page" radio button. Scroll to the bottom and click "Add";
    • Complete the information for your page in "Add Single Page";
    • Under "Page Filename", click on the "Browse" button and select the *.html file that was unzipped in the steps above;
    • Click on the "Pick" button;
    • Click on the "Return to Home Page" link and your new impaticized presentation should now be linked from your course Home Page.

  • Once you have imported the presentation into WebCT you cannot edit it directly. If you need to make changes to that presentation, make the changes to the copy on your local computer. Repeat the process for upload as described in this tutorial.
