1. When I try to view an Impatica presentation I only see a gray box with a red X in the corner. Why is this happening?
There are four possible reasons for this result:
Cause #1:
The most likely reason for this behavior is that you do not have Java installed on your computer. You can download and install Sun's Java Runtime Environment (JRE) at this address: http://www.java.com
Cause #2:
Another possible cause for this behavior is that you do not have Java enabled on your computer. To verify if this is the case, do the following in Internet Explorer:
- Select the Tools Menu -> Internet Options -> Advanced Tab;
- Once you are in the Advanced Tab of the Internet Options dialog box, scroll down to the setting for: Microsoft VM.;
- To enable the Microsoft VM check the "JIT compiler for virtual machine enabled" checkbox, this requires a restart of the browser, not the computer.

You can also opt to select the "Java console enabled" checkbox which will allow you to see any error messages that may be produced by the Microsoft VM.
Alternatively, if you have the Sun version of Java then find the Java (Sun) entry in the list and check the "Use Java 2 v(version number) for <applet>" checkbox, this requires a restart of the browser, not the computer.;

If you do not see either of these option listed, then you do not have Java installed. Please refer to Cause #1 above.
Netscape and Opera ship with Java but it needs to be explicitly selected for installation during the browser installation.
Cause #3:
The third possibility is that you have both Microsoft's and Sun's versions of Java installed and enabled on your computer and they are conflicting with one another. To solve this issue, follow the steps in Cause #2 and select only one version of Java to use; Sun's or Microsoft's.
Cause #4:
The final possibility for this behavior is that your version of Java may be corrupt. To solve this issue, uninstall your current version of Java (if possible) and then download a new version from Sun following the instructions contained in Cause #1.

2. Why does my impaticized presentation stop playing after the first slide?
The most likely reason for this is because the original presentation was set for this option in the PowerPoint file. It may be waiting for a Mouse Click to advance to the next slide. If you wish to disable this option, open the corresponding PowerPoint file and click on the "Slide Show" from the Menu Bar, and select "Slide Transition".
PowerPoint 97 and 2000: The "Slide Transition" dialog box will appear. In the bottom left corner of the dialog box, you will see the "Advance" panel. There are two options here: "On mouse click" and "Automatically after". If the "On mouse click" is the only option selected, the impaticized presentation will wait for a mouse click before advancing to the next slide.
PowerPoint 2002 (XP) and 2003: The "Slide Transition" panel will appear on the right-hand side of the PowerPoint interface. At the bottom of the "Slide Transition" panel, you will see the "Advance slide" frame. There are two options here: "On mouse click" and "Automatically after". If the "On mouse click" is the only option selected, the impaticized presentation will wait for a mouse click before advancing to the next slide. To have the slide advance automatically, select the "Automatically After" checkbox and provide an advance timing as required.
PowerPoint 2007: With PowerPoint 2007 the "Slide Transition" settings are available through the "Animations" menu (tab) of the ribbon. Once you are in the "Animations" section of the ribbon you will see the "Advance Slide" frame on the far right. To quickly apply the same setting to all slides in your presentation click the "Apply To All" button.
3. I am trying to view an Impatica movie but nothing is playing. I know that my web browser is Java enabled. What could this be?
Your web browser has a storage facility on your hard drive that stores graphics and text from web sites that you visit. This storage facility is called the cache, or Temporary Internet files. The reason web browsers have a cache is that it is quicker and easier to load images, etc. from cache on your hard drive than downloading them again. Over time, your browser's cache gets full and the information gets outdated. This can cause problems with Java applets that can result in your Impatica presentation freezing or not playing at all. The solution to this is to clear cache and reload the page. If this does not work, try clearing your cache, closing your browser and then revisiting the page.
Mozilla Firefox 2.x or greater
- Select Tools, then click "Clear Private Data".
- Select Cache.
- Click on "Clear Private Data Now" to clear the cache.
Netscape 4.x or greater
- Select Edit, then click Preferences.
- Select Advanced, then click Cache.
- Click on Clear Memory Cache and Clear Disk Cache buttons to clear the cache.
Internet Explorer 4.x or greater
- Select View (or Tools if you are using IE 5+), then click Internet Options.
- Select the General Tab.
- Click on the Delete Files button to clear the cache.
AOL
- Select Settings, then click on Preferences.
- Select Internet Properties (WWW).
- Select the General tab and click on the Delete Files button to clear the cache.

4. I just upgraded to Internet Explorer 7 and now I can't view Impatica e-mails in Outlook Express. I get an Active X control error message. Why?
Installing Internet Explorer 7 will also install Outlook Express on your computer. While the security settings for Internet Explorer will not be changed by this upgrade, the security settings for Outlook Express will. By default, the security settings for Outlook Express will be configured to block Java applets, Active X controls and other executables in e-mail messages. Under this configuration, when a Java applet or Active X control is detected in an e-mail message the error warning is triggered.
To change your security settings to allow Impatica e-mails, simply go to the "Tools" menu in Outlook Express, select the "Options" item from the menu. A dialog box will appear with a series of tabs. Select the "Security" tab. Select the radio button that has the caption "Internet Zone (less secure, more functional)". Click "Apply" and close the dialog box. You should now be able to view Impatica e-mails.
For more information on this issue, please visit the Microsoft support site.
5. I'm using Eudora as an e-mail client. I understand that Eudora supports Java applets in e-mail messages, but I can't view Impatica e-mails. What is the problem?
Most recent versions of Eudora do support Java applets in e-mail messages, however, Java is turned off by default. You must manually enable Java in your Eudora mail client. To do this:
- Select the "Tools" menu item.
- Select "Options" from the menu provided.
- Select "Viewing Mail" from the categories on the left of the dialog box that appears.
- Check the "Allow executables in HTML content" checkbox.
- Click "OK" to return to your regular mail screen.
This should enable you to view Java applets, and Impatica e-mails, with your Eudora mail client.

6. How do I make my single sound file play throughout my impaticized presentation?
You can easily achieve this effect by inserting the .wav file on the "Slide Transition" of the first slide in your PowerPoint
presentation and then uncheck the "Wait for Sound ...At end of slide" checkbox (this is checked by default) in Impatica for PowerPoint prior to translation. This will allow the subsequent slides to advance while the audio continues to play.
It should be noted, however, that this approach is not recommended as it will require the entire audio file to load (stream in) before the playback will begin. This may not be a concern when playing back locally or delivering to an audience with access to high-speed Internet connection but may be troublesome for users with dial-up
connections. The recommended approach is to use a separate .wav file for each slide or group of slides in the presentation. This should improve the streaming playback performance for dial-up users.
7. I have inserted a sound file on the first slide in my PowerPoint presentation and have set my automatic slide advance timings but my presentation does not advance properly. What am I doing wrong?
By default, Impatica for PowerPoint has the "Wait for Sound... At end of slide" checkbox checked. As a result, when there is a sound file present, your automatic slide advance timings would be ignored during playback and the length of your sound file will determine when the slides will advance. Uncheck the "Wait for sound at end of slide" checkbox and convert the presentation again.
8. I am getting an Active X error when I try to view impaticized e-mails using Outlook. How do I fix this issue?
Impatica for PowerPoint does not produce Active X content. This error will be produced when the Security; Secure content; Zone setting for Outlook is set to "Restricted sites" zone instead of "Internet" zone.
To view impaticized e-mails, simply change the Security Setting. To do this:
- Select the "Tools" menu item;
- Select "Options" from the menu provided;
- Select the "Security" tab in the "Options" dialog box;
- In the "Secure content" section, change the "Zone:"setting to "Internet" from "Restricted sites.";
- Click "OK" to return to your regular mail screen.
This should enable you to view Java applets, and Impatica e-mails, with your Outlook mail client.
9. We just migrated to Windows Server 2003 and the JAR file can no longer open the IMP file. Any ideas?
You must declare the MIME types within IIS on Windows Server 2003.
In order to set the MIME types to get Impatica content to play from a Windows 2003 server please do the following:
- Go to the IIS Control Panel (IIS Manager).
- Select in the left-hand panel your local computer name - Don't expand it, simply select the computer.
- Right-click the local computer and select "Properties" from the pop-up menu.
- This will launch the local computer's property window.
- At the bottom of the property window is a button that reads "MIME types".
- Once you select this option you have the opportunity to Add, Edit or Remove MIME types.
- Select to add a MIME type.
- In the Extension area type "imp".
a. Set the MIME type to "application/octet-stream".
- In the Extension area type "imv".
a. Set the MIME type to "application/octet-stream".
- In the Extension area type "jar".
a. Set the MIME type to "application/java-archive".
- In the Extension area type "class".
a. Set the MIME type to "application/java-class".
Restart of the server may be required.
With these changes the Windows 2003 server should be able to serve up the files without issue.
10. When I preview my impaticized presentations from my local hard-drive, I get a warning message that requires me to allow the active content to play on my computer. Why is this happening and how do I stop it from occurring?
If you are using Internet Explorer on Windows XP, with Service Pack 2 installed, then you may find that you are unable to view Impatica content that is saved to your hard drive (i.e. when using the Preview mode in Impatica applications or double-clicking an Impatica generated HTML icon on your screen) without first receiving a warning.
The reason for this is that Microsoft added a new security setting with Service Pack 2 that limits viewing of Java applets from your hard drive.
The new service pack does not affect the playback of Impatica content when the files are accessed online.
To rectify this situation open Internet Explorer and find the Tools menu. From within the Tools menu select Internet Options... and then the Advanced tab. Scroll down to the Security section and ensure the following item is checked... [x] Allow active content to run in files on My Computer SP2 Security Settings.
