Can
I use Impatica for PowerPoint content with WebCT? How do I upload
my content to WebCT?
Because
of WebCT's unique file upload feature, you cannot use Impatica's
FTP feature with WebCT. Impatica files must therefore be uploaded
in the same manner as normal web files. The difference in adding
Impatica content is that each Impatica movie requires, at minimum,
3 files.
Instructions
for uploading Impatica files:
Select
the Impatica files needed for proper playback:
-
filename.html (this
is the HTML file viewers will see, and is created by Impatica
for PowerPoint to play the converted PowerPoint presentation)
- filename.imp
(this is the converted PowerPoint presentation)
- ImPlayer(version
Number).jar (this is the Impatica Player*) or ImPlayerWithVideo(version
Number).jar (these are the Impatica Players*)
- filename.imv
(this is the converted video file contained in the presentation.
There will be one .imv file for each video file contained in
the presentation.)
*Only
one copy of each Impatica player is needed. This means that if
you have multiple Impatica files in the same directory, you only
need one copy of each .jar file in that directory.
- Place
the required Impatica files in a folder;
- Zip
the folder;
- Connect
to your WebCT account;
- Select
"Manage Files" from the "Control Panel"
on the left side of the page;
- Under
"File Options" select the "Upload File"
radio button. Click on the "Go" button;
- Click
on the "Browse" button. Choose the zip file to upload;
- Choose
the "Destination Folder";
- Click
on "Upload";
- Select
the uploaded zip file from your list of files;
- Select
"Unzip" as the "Action" setting for the
file and click "Go". You will now see the folder containing
the impaticized files listed along with the zip file;
- Select
"Add Page or Tool" from the "Control Panel"
on the left side of the page;
- In
the "Pages/URL's" section, select the "Single
Page" radio button. Scroll to the bottom and click "Add";
- Complete
the information for your page in "Add Single Page";
- Under
"Page Filename", click on the "Browse" button
and select the .html file that was unzipped in the steps above;
- Click
on the "Pick" button;
- Click
on "Return to Home Page" link and your new impaticized
presentation should now be linked from your course Home Page.

Can
I use my Impatica content with Blackboard? How
do I upload it to my Blackboard site?
Creating
your Impatica files and bringing them into Blackboard is simple.
Convert your PowerPoint presentation for Web delivery using Impatica
for PowerPoint.
This
will create the following files:
-
Impatica file (*.imp) (this is the converted PowerPoint presentation),
- Impatica
video files (*.imv) (if any) (there will be one of these converted
video files for each video contained in your source PowerPoint
file),
- Corresponding
.html file (this is the HTML file viewers will see, and is created
by Impatica for PowerPoint to play the converted PowerPoint
presentation),
- ImPlayer(version#).jar
or ImPlayerWithVideo(version#).jar** file (this is the
Impatica Player).
-
**ImPlayerWithVideo.jar is required to play Impatica files
that contain video clips.
Return to the save location and highlight the above files.
Zip
these files together to prepare them for uploading to Blackboard.
The
steps within Blackboard are as follows:
-
Create a new item in one of the primary content areas (Course
Information, Course Documents, Assignments, or Books).
-
Under the "Item Attachments" section, click on the "Browse"
button and locate the zip archive on your local computer.
-
For "Name of Link to File", enter the text your students will
click on to launch the Web site.
-
For Special Actions, select "Un-package this file" from the
drop-down menu. This instructs Blackboard to un-package the
archived file and rebuild the Web site on the Blackboard server.
-
Set any other options you desire, and click the "Submit" button.
-
You will be prompted with a follow-up form to select the entry
point. Select the file that will be the entry point for your
Web site, and click the "Submit" button.
Editing
the Imported Presentation: Once you have imported your "impaticized"
PowerPoint presentation into Blackboard you cannot edit it directly.
If you need to make changes to the presentation, make the changes
to the copy on your local computer, in PowerPoint. You will then
have to reimpaticize the PowerPoint file and upload it to Blackboard
again.

your Impatica content to Blackboard.
