Can I use Impatica for PowerPoint content with WebCT? How do I upload my content to WebCT?

Because of WebCT's unique file upload feature, you cannot use Impatica's FTP feature with WebCT. Impatica files must therefore be uploaded in the same manner as normal web files. The difference in adding Impatica content is that each Impatica presentation requires, at minimum, 3 files.

Instructions for uploading Impatica files:

When impaticizing your PowerPoint file, ensure that you select to generate a "Zip package" from the "Output Files" tab within Impatica for PowerPoint. To achieve this:

  1. Add a file to the "Source PowerPoint Files" list.
  2. Select the "Output Files" tab.
  3. Within the "Generated Support Files" area, check the "Zip package" checkbox.
  4. Select the remaining translation settings that you require and click on the "Impaticize" button.

Once the conversion process is complete, the following files will be located in the chosen save location:

  1. filename-imp.html (this is the HTML file viewers will see, and is created by Impatica for PowerPoint to play the converted PowerPoint presentation).
  2. filename-imp.jar (this is the converted PowerPoint presentation).
  3. ImPlayer (version Number).jar or ImPlayerWithVideo (version Number).jar (these are the Impatica Players*).
  4. videofilename.imv (this is the converted video file contained in the presentation. There will be one .imv file for each video file contained in the presentation. Imv files will only be present if there were videos contained on the slides in the PowerPoint file).
  5. filename.zip (this is the zip archive that contains all of the required files for playback of your impaticized presentation).

*Only one copy of each Impatica player is needed. This means that if you have multiple Impatica files in the same directory, you only need one copy of each ImPlayer (version Number).jar file in that directory.

  • Connect to your WebCT account;
  • Select "Manage Files" from the "Control Panel" on the left side of the page;
  • Under "File Options" select the "Upload File" radio button. Click on the "Go" button;
  • Click on the "Browse" button. Choose the zip file that was created by Impatica for PowerPoint to upload;
  • Choose the "Destination Folder";
  • Click on "Upload";
  • Select the uploaded zip file from your list of files;
  • Select "Unzip" as the "Action" setting for the file and click "Go". You will now see the folder containing the impaticized files listed along with the zip file;
  • Select "Add Page or Tool" from the "Control Panel" on the left side of the page;
  • In the "Pages/URL's" section, select the "Single Page" radio button. Scroll to the bottom and click "Add";
  • Complete the information for your page in "Add Single Page";
  • Under "Page Filename", click on the "Browse" button and select the *-imp.html file that was unzipped in the steps above;
  • Click on the "Pick" button;
  • Click on the "Return to Home Page" link and your new impaticized presentation should now be linked from your course Home Page.

Editing the Imported Presentation: Once you have imported the presentation into WebCT you cannot edit it directly. If you need to make changes to that presentation, make the changes to the copy on your local computer. Repeat the process for upload as described in this tutorial.

Has the process of incorporating my impaticized content into my SCORM compliant course changed?

Version 3 of Impatica for PowerPoint gives you the ability to export your impaticized content directly into a SCORM conformant sharable content object. This package can be used within a SCORM conformant learning management system.

To create a SCORM package of your impaticized presentation:

1- Select the "Classic Impatica file format(.imp)" option button within the "Impatica File Format" frame on the "Slide Show" tab.

NOTE: When creating SCORM content with Impatica for PowerPoint, using the "New Impatica file format (-imp.jar)" setting is currently not supported.

2- Select the "SCORM package" checkbox on the "Output Files" tab of Impatica for PowerPoint before impaticizing your file.

The SCORM package will have the extension “- scorm.zip” and will be located in the same folder as the corresponding Impatica file. The package produced includes generic meta-data. To edit the meta-data, unzip the package using a tool such as WinZip, then open and edit the metadata.xml file using a text editor. Re-zip the package once the changes are complete.
