Impatica Opens the Floodgates for Mobile Phone Delivery of Content

Toronto, June 24, 2002 - Impatica Inc., based in Ottawa, announced today that the Company has developed software that will allow the new generation of J2ME enabled mobile phones and PDAs to move beyond voice and text messages and receive multimedia presentations authored using Microsoft PowerPoint.

An article in the June 3, 2002 issue of Business Week entitled "TALE OF A BUBBLE...How the 3G fiasco came close to wrecking Europe" states: "In the cell phone business, operators simply invested in networks and sold handsets and subscribers produced their own content just by talking.... Worse yet is bandwidth's dirty secret: without compelling content and services to sell, high speed networks are a waste of money".

There are no tools available to produce mobile content easily. PowerPoint is by far the most widely used tool for the creation of multimedia content. Virtually every presentation built by business, government and educational users is prepared using PowerPoint. The problem is that it produces large files that only play on PCs equipped with special software.

"Clearly, compelling content that gives value to subscribers is the missing component." commented Michael Doyle, CEO of Impatica. "Currently creation of content for delivery to mobile phones is very time consuming and expensive, requiring specialized programming skills. Impatica's products eliminate that bottleneck."

Impatica's software enables users of Microsoft PowerPoint to convert their animated and narrated files (including video) for delivery to most Java enabled devices. Impatica can now playback content created in PowerPoint on the new generation of cell phones and PDAs that are widely available in Japan and Europe. The North American market is opening up very quickly. By bridging the gap between hundreds of millions of PowerPoint users and these new devices, Impatica has opened the floodgates to development of compelling content at affordable costs. Now practically anyone can develop content. The applications are varied and affordable.

"With hundreds of billions of dollars already invested in building the infrastructure for high speed mobile delivery, this is exactly the tool the market has been waiting for," said Doyle. "People will now have a better reason to sign up for these extended mobile services and purchase new Java-enabled cell phones."
